BSC Dust Numerical Database
The numerical dust forecasts of both the BSC-DREAM8b and NMMB/BSC-Dust models are accessible from this page.
The available modelled data consists in diagnostic simulations of the BSC-DREAM8b (v1.0 and v2.0), and NMMB/BSC-Dust over Northern Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. The simulated dust distributions consist of daily runs in 24-hour daily forecasts. The meteorological fields are initialized every 24h (at 0UTC) and boundary conditions are updated every 6h with the NCEP/FNL Final Operational Global Analysis data (1° x 1°). Since there are not yet satisfactory three-dimensional dust concentration observations, the initial state of dust concentration in the model is defined by the 24-hour forecast from the previous-day model run. The model at the starting day is run using “cold start” conditions, i.e., the zero-concentration initial state.
These long-term series do not correspond with the daily dust forecast shown in the BSC website. They have been rerun in order to provide to the users long-term homogeneous simulations for their purposes.
