Applications that allow to visualize the air quality forecast for Spain and Europe as well as the concentration maps for the next 12 and 48 hours respectively of the main atmospheric pollutants: ozone (O3), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5).
The app uses the user location to show the air quality forecast at the closest stations through five categories: good, fair, deficient, bad and very bad. It is directed to citizens interested in the air quality status, either because they are susceptible to cardiorespiratory diseases, they have children, they want to practice sport in the open air or are simply concerned about the quality of the air they breathe.
The information displayed is part of the daily forecast generated by the CALIOPE air quality system (www.bsc.es/caliope) run in the MareNostrum supercomputer from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. Observations from the European Environment Information and Information Network (EIONET) and the European Environment Agency (EEA) are received. The app for Europe has been financed by the European Commission in the framework of the project MYGEOSS.
