Our work in this project

User engagement and co-development - We co-developed a case study for reindeer husbandry with various cooperatives in Lapland, focusing on the integration of scientific and traditional knowledge to enhance the resilience of Arctic reindeer herder communities.

Weather and climate predictions - Climate scientists in our group explored how predictions of climate variables and indicators for the next weeks and months can inform the planning and management practices or reindeer herders.

Why is this work relevant?

The Arctic has been warming at a much faster rate than the rest of the globe. To mitigate the negative and boost the positive impacts of this change, Arctic communities need to adapt their lives and activities. The new knowledge co-produced in ArcticXchange will help increase the capacity of these communities in dealing with climate change and variability, by allowing them to better plan and manage their daily activities, as well as to optimise their total revenues. Overall, this serves to increase the resilience of polar regions in the face of climate change, while helping to preserve traditional livelihoods.
