Our work in this project

User research - We designed this application through close interaction with journalists. We conducted interviews, surveys and prototype testing (e.g. think-out-loud exercises) with journalists to understand their climate information needs and requirements, and develop an application that meets these.

User experience - Using a human-centered design approach, we implemented user experience principles to create a friendly experience for journalists, while meeting their climate information needs.

Prototype hand-off - Our team delivered a prototype application to C3S that will serve as a stepping stone in developing an operational platform providing climate information to journalists.

Why is this work relevant?

Journalists are important communicators of climate change information to the general public, policymakers, businesses and other stakeholders. However, climate data are complex, and media professionals often have limited time and resources to properly understand, manipulate and tailor these data to support their stories.

The Press Data Portal aimed to bridge the gap between journalists and climate data by providing an application that helps them create tailored visualisations of data that originate from the CDS to support their climate change stories.
