Sharing knowledge with society - we develop a citizen science platform for mapping climate change narratives that use climate services for adaptation. We also apply a transdisciplinary approach to climate storylines for the exploration and better communication of plausible futures under different levels of global warming.
Systematic collection and analysis - through computational social sciences methods, we systematically collect and analyse qualitative and quantitative information on climate adaptation narratives to enhance our understanding of what successful climate services are.
Guidelines for climate services - we identify the characteristics that allow climate services to flourish under certain contexts, which provides lessons for the generation of more usable and effective services.
Why is this work relevant?
Climate science suffers from a recognised usability gap, which makes that despite having better quality data, this data is rarely incorporated in policy and planning. Climate services can contribute to address this challenge, but the characteristics that services should hold to be successful are poorly understood. CLIMA-GAP seeks to close this gap by analysing existing climate services narratives and developing a storyline approach that combines physical and social components.
