EXPECT

Start: March 2024 , End: February 2028

EXPECT will work towards an operational prototype for integrated climate attribution and prediction that enables trustworthy assessments and predictions of regional climate change and extremes to support targeted adaptation strategies.

Our work in this project

  • Science explainers for the broader research community and decision-makers - A series of science explainers is created in collaboration with scientists to break down key messages from novel research directions and disseminate them to other researchers, decision-makers and policy makers. Depending on the type of information and target audience, the final form of the explainers can range from factsheets and posters to videos and policy briefs.

Why is this work relevant?

Science explainers can improve trust and understanding in climate science and strengthen relationships between the project and its stakeholders because it makes otherwise inaccessible information about the research process available to non-experts beyond the consortium. The research will become more relatable as scientific motivations, day-to-day challenges and project outcomes are written in a more concrete and accessible way.

Moreover, the science explainers will bring new climate knowledge and process understanding of extremes to the forefront as the EXPECT project aims to benefit cost-efficient adaptation. These messages will be built on a robust understanding and attribution of changes, events and prediction signals to their drivers. The resulting confidence in predictions and projections for the coming years and decades presents trustworthy and timely climate information that supports the development of targeted and cost-efficient climate mitigation and adaptation strategies in Europe.
